Christophe Matata

Jean Christophe Matata was born in 1962, on August 20. He was born in Bujumbura in the country of Burundi. At the age of 18, he entered the music industry and made it professionally. In that year he was in a group called "Africa Nil Band" but later decided to become a soloist.
In 1986, the late Jean Christophe Matata came to Rwanda. Since then he was one of the most popular artists in Kigali because of his album called "Amaso Akunda", and called "Ihore ntusarare". Another popular Matata album is called “Nyaranja”. The singer's songs made him a popular artist and was loved by many.
In 1990, Matata returned to Burundi and continued to visit other countries including Belgium. Matata is one of the artists who marked the great period of music in Burundi between 1970 and 1980.
At around 3:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m.) on January 3, 2011, the famous Jean Christophe Matata passed away at a hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, where he had gone to perform a concert. Matata died at the age of 50 from left lung disease, leaving behind a wife and two children, Jean-Armel Matata (who also became an artist) and Kallista.
In his funeral, Burundi showed that he was honorable and the casket he was buried in was covered with the flag of the country of Burundi.
